![]() ![]() How could that be? God then tells us why this new destiny was possible-because men now “know good and evil.” Being immersed in a world of good and evil, having the capacity to choose, and being able to draw upon the powers of the Atonement resulted in man having unlimited opportunities to progress toward his destiny of godhood. Once Adam and Eve were cast from the garden, we read in the book of Genesis that God Himself said, “Behold, the man is become as one of us ” ( Genesis 3:22 emphasis added). An infant may be innocent but certainly not perfect in the sense that he or she has acquired all the attributes of godliness. Innocence and perfection are not the same. When Adam and Eve were cast out of the Garden of Eden, they traded their innocence, meaning a lack of knowledge of good and evil, for the prospect of perfection-that was the deal. They were in a state of spiritual neutral and could not progress toward their divine destiny until they were cast out of the garden and thus put in spiritual gear. I cannot reach your destination until I put my car in gear.” You might respond, “That would make no difference. What if I further replied, “Just push the accelerator all the way to the floor-you know, as they say, ‘Push the pedal to the metal.’” You might smile and respond, “That’s not possible.” Further suppose I asked you to drive in neutral. ![]() Suppose for a moment my wife and I invited one of you good Saints from California to drive to our home in Utah. Lehi described their condition as follows: “Wherefore they would have remained in a state of innocence, having no joy, for they knew no misery doing no good, for they knew no sin” ( 2 Nephi 2:23). When Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden, they lived in a state of innocence-meaning they only had a limited knowledge of good and evil. What, then, has God revealed to us about our destiny? He has spoken clearly and frequently and forthrightly on this subject from the very beginning. They are, in truth, inseparable partners. If one does not correctly understand his divine identity, then he will never correctly understand his divine destiny. It is this doctrine of identity that defines our potential destiny of godhood. However many generations in your mortal ancestry, no matter what race or people you represent, the pedigree of your spirit can be written on a single line. Fix that truth in your mind and hold to it. Spiritually you are of noble birth, the offspring of the King of Heaven. As to this identity, President Packer has written: On the other hand, as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we believe that we are the spirit offspring of God with inherited spiritual traits that give us the divine potential to become like our parent, God the Father. In essence, their doctrine of identity has defined and dictated a diminished destiny. For example, can a mere creation ever become like its creator? Can a building ever become an architect? A painting a painter? Or an invention an inventor? If not, then those who believe we are creations of God, rather than His spirit offspring, reach the inevitable conclusion that we do not have the capacity to become like our creator, God. 1 What difference does this doctrinal distinction make? The difference is monumental in its consequence because our identity determines in large measure our destiny. They teach that we are more than creations of God they teach that we are the literal spirit offspring or children of God our Father. The scriptures teach, however, a much different doctrine. There is a sentiment among many in the world that we are the spirit creations of God, just as a building is the creation of its architect or a painting the creation of its painter or an invention the creation of its inventor. And so today I speak of the true nature of our identity and a correct vision of our divine destiny.įirst, our identity. That answer resonated with me, not only as a response to that specific question but as an appropriate response to most of the challenges we face in life. ![]() ![]() Nelson stood and replied, “Teach them their identity and their purpose.” At a recent training session for General Authorities, the question was asked: “How can we help those struggling with pornography?”Įlder Russell M. ![]() The audio file must be AAC inside a MP4 format container and not raw AAC data file. ![]() A mod called AACGain exists that can be used as super-set drop-in replacement in most front-ends originally created for MP3Gain. MP3Gain is unable to change the volume on AAC or MP4 files. MP3Gain does not introduce any digital generation loss because it does not decode and re-encode the file. The scale factor modification can be reversed using the information in the added tag and the tag may be removed. It then modifies the overall volume scale factor in each MP3 frame, and writes undo information as a tag (in APEv2, or ID3v2 format) making this a reversible process. MP3Gain first computes the desired gain (volume adjustment), either per track or per album, using the ReplayGain algorithm. In 2015 Debian and Ubuntu removed it from their repositories due to a lack of an active maintainer. Mark the Normalize volume option and make changes to the settings. As a rising favourite of the boss, he was even seconded to one of Murdoch’s other papers, the Chicago Sun-Times, for three months in 1984. He returned to London as executive editor of the Times and, within a year, as deputy – Charlie Two – to the ailing patrician editor, Charles Douglas-Home. In 1982, Murdoch, who had recently acquired the Times titles, was looking for an executive from the popular end of the newspaper market and lighted on Wilson. In 1976 he became an editor for the first time, of the Glasgow Evening Times, adding its morning sister paper the Herald and then becoming inaugural editor of the short-lived Scottish Sunday Standard. Rising up the Mail editorial ladder, in 1971 Wilson was sent to Manchester as deputy northern editor, then recalled to London three years later as assistant editor of the London Evening News. I saw him as a bully and a pig,” she wrote in her memoirs, though he did not impede her regular access to their daughter. “Charlie saw me as a self-centred, selfish, uncaring wife and mother. Their divorce after five years was acrimonious, Wilson being given custody of their baby daughter, Emma, because of Robinson’s incipient alcoholism. He sacked her without compunction after their marriage because of a company rule forbidding couples to work together. In her autobiography, Memoirs of an Unfit Mother, published 30 years after their divorce, Robinson remembered cooking Wilson his breakfast and then tidying up while he went on to the office, only to be bawled out by him when she turned up 20 minutes late for work. It was also there that he met and in 1968 married Anne Robinson, a young Liverpudlian reporter who was later to find fame on the television quiz show The Weakest Link. It was there, over the following decade, that he learned the traditionally hard-driving, brutal management skills of the Mail newsdesk. By the age of 24 Wilson was ready to return to London, becoming a reporter on the News Chronicle and transferring to the Daily Mail the following year when the papers merged in 1960. He did two years’ national service with the Royal Marines, winning a boxing championship, and then launched his journalism career at the Bristol Evening World, sharing a flat at one stage with the future playwright Tom Stoppard, a fellow trainee. Wilson was the son of Adam, a former miner who had turned steel worker after a pit injury, and his English wife, Ruth, born at Shettleston in east Glasgow – some way from the Gorbals. When that battle occurred, Wilson and his Scottish compatriot Andrew Neil at the Sunday Times played their part in stiffening Murdoch’s resolve to stick it out when the fight grew rough. The ulterior purpose was to appoint a robust and pugnacious editor in preparation for the coming battle with the print unions and the flit to Wapping. The open purpose was to change all that by enlivening the paper and broadening its appeal, edging it downmarket in the direction of the Daily Mail, tackling a wider range of particularly human interest stories and consciously attracting more women and less stuffy readers. He was nevertheless an unusual choice by Rupert Murdoch to become the 18th editor of the Times in 1985, occupying a chair more often filled by patrician Oxbridge types.
